You Can Repair Your Smile and Change Your Life The Many Benefits of Dentures

Increased Dental Function

Missing teeth can hinder your ability to chew your favorite foods and even alter your speech patterns, making your speech harder to understand. Dentures can allow you to eat and speak easily again.

Improve the Aesthetics of Your Smile

Missing teeth can distract from your smile, cause jaw recession, and make your mouth look sunken and aged. Traditional dentures will fill out your facial structure while implant-supported restorations preserve your bone density.

Enhance Your Self-Confidence

Prosthetic teeth restore your ability to eat the foods you like, confidently speak in public, and show off your smile with pride. As a result, dentures can even improve your self-esteem and help you live a better quality of life.

The Different Types of Dentures We Offer in Dearborn

Dentures are prosthodontic devices designed to replace several missing teeth. They are custom-designed to restore everything from several consecutive missing teeth to complete tooth loss. Take a closer look at the different kinds of dentures our Dearborn dental office can craft for you:
Partial Denture

Partial Dentures

A partial denture can fill in the gaps in your smile, even when you have missing teeth in different areas of your mouth. Small metal clasps connect the partial denture to adjacent natural teeth, anchoring the prosthetic and providing additional security. Our partial dentures are designed to fit comfortably in your smile, preserve the balance of your bite, and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting.

Full Denture

Complete Dentures

Conventional complete dentures consist of a full dental arch of porcelain or plastic teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic base. Our dentist may need to extract any remaining damaged or decayed teeth to create a healthy foundation for your restoration. Complete or "full" dentures are secured to the gums through the aid of suction and a mild adhesive.

Implant-supported denture

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants can be surgically placed in the jaw to support your denture with maximum stability. Implant-supported dentures are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and implants can last the rest of your life with proper care and maintenance. Unlike other dental practices, the team at Dearborn Family Dentistry can provide all the steps of dental implant treatment conveniently under one roof.

Implant-Supported Dentures Are Highly Stable and Durable

Our doctor can place four or more dental implants to anchor a full dental arch. These implants can last a lifetime and can save you money on tooth restoration in the long run.

Implant-supported dentures have all the same benefits as their traditional counterparts – plus more. Implant-supported dentures won’t slip out of place while you’re eating or speaking. The implants themselves also help prevent your jawbone from deteriorating, which happens naturally if you’re missing teeth. In comparison, traditional dentures can accelerate that bone loss.

Implants can even help you save money on the long-term expenses of dental restorations: if your gums and jawbone change shape, a traditional pair of dentures may not fit as well anymore. By maintaining the jawbone, implants can help your dentures last longer and decrease the number of replacements you may need in the future.

Ask Our Dentists About Implant-Supported Dentures  During a Consultation

While implants and implant-supported dentures offer some of the best results for missing teeth, the treatment is more involved.

As members of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Dr. Luria and Dr. Allswang have the training to answer questions about the procedure during a consultation. Our practice also offers seminars on dental implants so you can learn more about this revolutionary technique that can be used to replace a single tooth or all of your teeth.

What to Expect When Visiting Dearborn Family Dentistry

Patient-Focused Care

We treat each of our patients like family at Dearborn Family Dentistry. That means we put your needs and care at the top of our priority list.

Comprehensive Services

We provide a full range of services to the Dearborn community including general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry so our patients can receive all aspects of treatment under one roof.

Treatment at Your Pace

We like to go at our patient’s pace and not the other way around. During the consultation and exam, we’ll take extra time to discuss your needs and get to know you better.

Part of the Community

We’re proud to be a cornerstone of the community and have been serving the Dearborn area since 1946.

Cost Friendly Treatment and Financing Options

A common concern for patients with missing teeth is being able to afford dentures. It is important to know that traditional dentures are often covered partially or completely by insurance providers. While this type is the most cost-friendly option upfront, many patients find that dental implants are worth the additional investment for their added benefits and long-term savings.

We believe all of our patients deserve access to the very highest quality of care. To help make treatment more affordable, we offer financing through CareCredit®, allowing you to make low-interest monthly payments for any out-of-pocket expenses.

Dearborn Family Dentistry strives to give you fair and transparently priced treatment and will provide a personal estimate during your consultation.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry can help you relax during your treatments, but sedation is not just used for dental anxiety. Common conditions like arthritis can make sitting still a challenge for some patients. With sedation, we can provide a more comfortable experience in the dental chair and help the process go a little faster.

Our practice offers nitrous oxide, a light form of sedation that you inhale through a mask to ease your tension. For procedures like implants, we can combine local anesthesia and nitrous oxide for a virtually painless experience.

Timeline for Traditional Dentures

Before undergoing dental treatment, it is important to know what to expect.
Here is a typical timeline for traditional denture treatment:

Your dentures are made at the trusted local lab we have worked with for over 40 years.
Your dentures are made at the trusted local lab we have worked with for over 40 years.

Consultation

During your initial consultation, your dentist will design a custom treatment plan according to your needs. This begins with taking X-rays to determine your bone density and jaw health.

Extractions

After deciding which treatment is right for you, we may recommend tooth extractions to prepare your mouth for dentures. We will administer an anesthetic and provide sedation if needed to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Impressions

After about 8-12 weeks, your gums will heal from extractions and our dentist can take impressions of your mouth. This information is sent to our trusted local lab that we have worked with for over 40 years to construct the highest quality dentures.

Assessing Models

The lab will send back model dentures or a wax mockup for you to try on. We will assess the positioning, size, shape, and overall appearance, take note of your preferences, and make any modifications to the molds.

Fitting

When the dentures are complete, we will schedule an appointment to have them fit. Once the prosthetic teeth are in place, your dentist will check your bite and make any necessary adjustments.

Adjustment Period

The dentures may feel slightly uncomfortable or loose for a few weeks while your mouth adapts and your muscles grow to support the prosthetics. It is normal for patients to need occasional adjustments, which can be taken care of during periodic visits and dental checkups.

What Can the Results Look Like?

Using modern dental technology, we carefully design and craft comfortable long-lasting dentures that restore your oral function.

Denture Care and Maintenance

On average, well-cared-for conventional dentures will last five to eight years. It is important to attend regular dental checkups and practice good oral hygiene in addition to maintaining your prosthetic teeth. Our dentist will advise you on proper techniques to care for your dentures, including:

Remove and Rinse After Meals

When possible, you should remove your traditional full or partial dentures and wash them after every meal to keep them free of food particles and other loose debris.

Handle the Prosthetic Carefully

Make sure not to warp or bend the acrylic base when removing your denture. Wash them over a towel or bowl of water to prevent damage if they accidentally slip from your hands.

Soak Overnight

A good pair of removable dentures can become warped or cracked if you leave them out to dry, so you should soak them overnight in a dedicated cleaning solution or glass of lukewarm water.

Avoid Abrasives and Excess Pressure

Use a small- to medium-headed toothbrush to clean the prosthetic at least once daily with non-abrasive toothpaste. Be careful when eating especially hard foods as your denture is prone to the same cracks and damage as natural teeth.

Follow Instructions

While dedicated cleaning solutions can help keep your dentures clean, some solutions and denture types are not compatible. Check with our dentist before buying any cleaners or adhesives to make sure they won't damage the denture materials.

When Should I Contact a Dentist About My Dentures?

Changed Fit

While many patients may use adhesives to help hold their dentures in place, adhesives cannot restore the function of your smile like a good-fitting pair of dentures can. Unless you have certain oral conditions or a job that requires a lot of singing or public speaking, you should not need to use heavy amounts of adhesive to hold your dentures in place. If your dentures keep slipping, contact our office and ask about getting a new pair. Keep in mind that it's normal for dentures to feel a little loose when you first start wearing them.

Damaged Dentures

Older pairs of dentures may become more susceptible to damage, especially if they dry out. If you notice a crack or break in your dentures, you should contact our office immediately. Try to collect any missing chips or pieces that fell off and bring them with you. Do not try to fix the dentures yourself, as this could damage the materials even more. Our team can often perform same-day repairs, so you don't have to go without teeth. If your dentures are beyond repair, we will work quickly to provide you with a new pair.

Don't Settle for a Loose Fit Contact Our Practice About Denture Replacements
